Therapy in English with Sorin Tărău

I am a clinical psychologist and cognitive-behavioural therapist working with adults in Romanian and English.

O Minte Sănătoasă is my psychology and psychotherapy practice in Bucharest. My approach combines the structure and clarity of evidence-based therapy with careful attention to your individual experience, circumstances and goals.

About me
Starting therapy

You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy

Some people come to therapy because they know exactly what is troubling them. Others arrive with a difficult period, a recurring pattern, or simply the sense that something in their life is no longer working as well as it used to.

We can start by understanding what is happening, what may be keeping the difficulty going, and what might help you respond differently.

Living away from home can add another layer

Building a life in another country often involves more than changing your address.

BucharestOnlineEnglish

You may be adapting to a different culture, working in another language, building relationships from scratch, living far from family and familiar support, or trying to feel at home in a place that still feels partly unfamiliar.

These experiences do not have to be the reason you come to therapy. But they can shape how stress, relationships, identity, work and emotional difficulties are experienced.

You do not need to have an “expat problem” to come to therapy in English. We start with your life as it is.

How I work

Understanding what keeps difficulties going

A central part of the work is understanding the patterns that shape how you think, feel and respond, and how some of those patterns may continue to create difficulties even when they once served a useful purpose. From there, we can work on developing more flexible and workable ways of responding.

Emotional regulation

Understanding your emotional responses and learning ways to deal with difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them.

Psychological flexibility

Learning to make room for difficult thoughts and feelings without allowing them to determine every decision you make.

Self-understanding

Recognising your needs, values, recurring patterns and the experiences that influence the way you relate to yourself and others.

Resilience and adaptability

Developing ways of responding more effectively to uncertainty, change, pressure and periods when life does not go according to plan.
